I found this half of a black powder gun this past weekend here in Texas...An old cabin site tucked way in the woods that I have been hunting this year...barrel is 7 1/2" long and octagonal....appears to be Pietta, or Colt Navy Revolver...any idea if this is correct? Was buried about 7" down along a treeline...Also, this buckle seems to be giving me a problem on ID'ing what it would have been used for...it has the markings: PAT. FEB'10 '70...any clues?
Thanks,
Baggins

Oh my gawd...

Fantastic!

That revolver barrel looks freaking awesome!

Man - that would display nicely...

The buckle is fabulous... I have no idea what it was for.

The gun resembles the 1851 Colt Navy revolver used by the Confederate officers. Not sure of the buckle...maybe a sadle buckle??

I would definetly go back and really search that area again.Deep.Buckle could be from saddle bag,who knows what else may have been buried.Critters could have spread the area.HH

Based on the barrel length, it would appear to be a Colt or Colt clone. If a Model 51 it should be in .36 cal/ Factory markings may be decipherable after cleaning. These will be on the top flat of the barrel. Serial number may also be present. If you can clean it up to that point, a more definite date of production can be established. Nice find. RETREAD

Hey Baggins. Long time no see bud. Still managing groups? Any how the gun has no top strap, a notched release on the left side of the frame, and a hexagonal barrel. All indicative of a Colt Navy, 1951 model. Of course it could be something else, but If I was a bettin man I would take out a second mortgage to say it was a 1951 Colt. Later
