Hand forged relic of some sort found at my Civil War Permission.

I am back from an afternoon up I-75 on one of my good Civil War permissions.
Found .22 bullet, 3 shotgun stamps and this rusty iron bracket that appears to be hand forged. Hopefully from the photos you can see the width is not uniform and the square holes are at slightly different angles and sizes.

I cleaned it up with a wire brush.

So what is this? Any ideas?

Hi pulltabfelix, what is a "Shotgun Stamp" ?

my understanding it is the bass part of a shotgun shell. Lot of older shotgun shells were stiff or waxed? paper. When that rots in the ground leaving a round brass item that the Exquinox 800 loves to find. Some people collect them. With me they go into my growing junk collection can.
