    Re: Civil War Era Bullets

I was speaking with the Asst. Scout Master with a BSA troop in Jamesburg, NJ. He mention that his troop just camper at Gettysburg and the kids loved it. His son purchased a chrome replica of a Minnie Ball. I don't know if there are any relic hunters out there that would like to donate some actual dig bullets but I thought it would be neat to give the boys a real lead bullet. There are 30 kids in the troop so if anyone is interested in donating please PM me. If I can get enough bullets I will have the scout master take a picture of the boys with the bullets. In my three years of detecting in NJ I've only found one so I can't do this with out a little help from T-Net members.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks cwdigger...I really appreciate the generous offer. I just sent you a PM.

I don't know when their next meeting is but as soon as they arrive and I can get them over to the troop I will post a picture.

    Re: Civil War Era Bullets

They'll get a kick out of them! I did a talk to a cub scout pack back in the early spring. I think they were the most attentive group I have ever spoken before on the local Civil War history. At the conclusion, I opened a Tupperware carton, and let them choose a dropped bullet each from one of the local battles. Their eyes told the picture.... and I had mothers for weeks telling me about their son coming home with the bullet I had given to them. Maybe another spark was ignited in one of them that'll have them more interested in the history..... and maybe even relic hunting.

    Re: Civil War Era Bullets

The bullets arrived...Thanks cwdigger. I can't wait to line up the talk.

I spoke to a preschool group last year....kids are the best. The school asked me to come in and give a fifteen minute talk since they usually don't stay engaged too long. At the fifteen minute mark the teacher asked me if I could continue. It lasted an hour then I let the kids come up to a container I filled with sand and seeded with coins and use a probe to locate an item. I even threw in a few pulltabs to make the point they should carry all garbage off the beach.
