the 8 in. coil is approx one pound less in weight to the 10 in set up. I have a 10 in.. xcal 2 and love it.. and yet I do want a 8 in one as well.. always good to have a back up eh..

The 10 inch coil is about 2" deeper too. But the most important thing about the larger coil is the sand area covered per sweep.

I THINK THEY COULD PUT A 12" COIL AND CALL IT eX CAL 3 ???????
You can always void the warranty and put those water proof adapters on and use a 15 inch WOT coil .

Excal 800 = 8 inch coil

Excal 1000 = 10 inch coil

Excal 1200 = 12 inch Sunray coil

Excal 1500 = 15 inch WOT coil

I have 2 15 inch WOTs and a SEF 15 x 18 Butterfly coil for my Sovereign GTs for almost 3 years, and recently I put a WOT on one of my Excals and I will never go back to a stock 10 inch or 8 inch coil unless my 3 WOT coils (2 on Sov GTs and 1 on an Excal) and 1 SEF 15 x 18 butterfly coil all go bad at the same time........Currently looking for a Sunray S-12 for my other Excal.........

If i was going with the standard detector i would get the 1000 or 10 inch coil.. if you are getting it used and a good deal get the 8 inch or 800.. if it is used you have no warranty anyhow so you could put the adapter on and use any coil you want.

If it is a used 800 like said and a good buy get it and use the adapter on it for you have no warranty any how . then put on any size coil you want to use that day.

Excalibur,
best bet go with the excal 1000, and if you ever want to sell it , resale alot better for the 10" then the 8"

To me 2" on a coil is a huge difference and there's no way I would use one. With the loss of coverage and depth it would cost me way too many finds where I hunt.

Yes, there's lots of water around Dirtyville and a river not far from my back door. I was talking about fields, but is no different than water when comparing 8" & 10.5" coils.
