I'd get the same, and I have for most of the last 9 years. (2 Explorers with the old 10.5" stock coil)

The smaller coil will only be lighter and offer no other advantage. The 10" coil covers more ground per sweep in area and depth so you won't have to over lap as much as you would with the smaller 8 inch.
