I believe the 505 has one additional notch added to the discrimination.
The 50 has 18 and the 505 has 19 segments.
Other than that, they are the same except for color scheme.

Well, I just checked the specs on the 505.
It has a few more features than I previously wrote about.
3 disc patterns plus all metal vs. the 50 with 2 patterns plus all metal.
More options on the number of different tones.
Wider ranged on the ground balance and volume controls and I believe sensitivity also.
You can see the differences on the Minelab website.

Much more than just the name.....

Granted, they changed the color, added another Pattern and enhanced the software. But in addition to that, they added multiple tone audio mode and allowed the capability of using the 3 kHz coil. As a person who hunts for old coins at old sites, those are two very important upgrades from the X-50. JMHO HH Randy

Hey Digger....

Randy,
Thanks for chiming in on this post.. everytime I went to the Minelab site, I saw something else that was different about the 505 vs. 50.
While I'm still using the X-Terra 50, I do see some improvements in the next generation of the X-Terra line.
