if your still awaiting a answer to this, there are a couple good things, Automatic ground balancing and noise cancelling, more IDs. as like all other MDs and models the high up in the models the better the detector, which is the same here. now I use the 505 but I also would have went 705 IF i could have afforded it at the time.

The 705 has auto ground balance, gold feature, and thats about it, and i think it works on the beach better, if you dont hunt for gold its a waste of money to buy the 705. I love my 505!!!

Thanks for all the information But I'm still torn between the two Lol The ground balance auto vs manual I guess I'll find out June first when I order one 505-705

Jim: Good luck finding the 705. I got lucky on mine. I only have about four hours on it, but my very first solid coin hit was a 1944 S Mercury dime!

Im new to this a was wanting to go with the minelab namebrand. What compares to the xterra 705? I want something that hunts coins an relic! Thanks for any helping info..

I have the 505 and have found a bunch of relics and coins. But it is a relic magnet.
