Finally a place to search...and a few keepers found with Etrac.

The place I started to metal detect Saturday but then got rained out from has no one occupying it now(all the students are leaving at this time of year), so couldn't ask for permission to look again. Knocked on 11 other doors on and around 2nd & Fess (here in Bloomington IN)trying to find a place to search. 10 not at home and one turn-down. FINALLY saw a student moving out who lived next to his landlord and was able to search that yard for a bit. A few nice neat finds: 1906 Indian Head Cent, 1921 Wheat (a year I have been missing) a couple other newer Wheat's and a fancy George Washington "Lucky Play Money." Also an Aluminum tag that says "GC...From the Children of Zuni New Mexico, Thank You." No silver today, but at least I found a few keepers and my 8th Indian Cent since March.

Me too, I like to at least see one IH or WC then I don't feel like the hunt was a loss.

can I ask - what do those indians sound like/read like on the E-Trac??

I just picked up an E-Trac to add to my stable of machines and have only used it 2xs so far and I've never used a ML except an ex-cal some time ago so I'm trying to learn in a hurry as to what to listen for / see on the VDI for old coins like indians, V's, Buffs, etc. Silver = no problem - found a Merc the 1st time out with it - also 2 wheats and some clad.

Hard to pick up the language of a ML after using mostly Fishers and Garretts for 30+ yrs!

Nice finds. Funny If I find a wheat cent I consider it a success also even though I would be better off with a clad quarter. I guess if i get a wheatie I think there should be some silver around.

I'm happy if I find a pre-30's Wheatie. I like finding old stuff mostly, clads just don't anything for me. I guess if I found $50 a day in clad that would be an incentive but usually it's a dollar or two at most.

I agree, I am really interested in the older coins. On my best clad day I found like $6, although I was happy enough about it, I would have gladly changed it for a silver coin. Guess I could go buy one with the clad.

A few weeks ago I was out for about 3 hours in the bad weather, but when I pulled a crusty old mercury dime out, I was content. Nevermind I probably spent about $7 in gas going to and back the place I hunted.

Anyways, hoping to get out early in the morning tomorrow if it isn't raining and add to my silver collection.

Even a lone silver is always nice (or an Indian cent) I like to find at least one old coin. I'm likely not to make a profit besides I keep all my coins. It's the pursuit and the challenge I like (kind of like fishing I'd guess) I tried to get out this morning before the rain as well, but no luck to much stuff to do at home . Finally I went out in the evening at about 5pm and went to my original best site. It started to rain but fortunately I had the new shrinkwrap on my Etrac housing. Managed to pull out one more wheat cent (1946). So I found one old coin in the downpour. Was covered in mud and drenched but I was determined to get out and I did! Pretty sure it's supposed to rain tomorrow as well. When my vacation ends Sunday it's supposed to be nice out! I've gotten one sunny day out of 7!

Hmmm sounds coin-like (have to use it some to get used to the sounds) and mine usually read around 12-38 sometimes lower. I used to use White's and Tesoro (still have one) Minelabs are very different and take some getting used to.

Yes, there are some really nice green patinas on many of the IH's that come out of the ground here . If it's not a silver edge I first see in the hole, then I hope for a nice green one!
