Hello everyone,

I was out yesterday with my new ctx3030, and I dug my first standing liberty quarter at a depth of only 2 inches. I think its a 1917s type 2, any thoughts on this since there isn't a date on it? Thanks for your help.

Definitely a type 2 but what makes you think it's a 17S?

You can see the s mint mark on left corner of where date would be, I thought I read online somewhere that if it has pedestal around where date was that it was a 17 maybe I am wrong. Any help on date or am I correct on 17?

Hello everyone again,

I dug 2 more firsts yesterday, a 1920 buffalo nickel and my first shield nickel all within 20 feet of each other. They were iffy nickel signals on my minelab ctx 3030. They rang up a 10-11, and they were shallow only 3 or 4 inches deep, man I love this machine, it's a killer on nickels!!!

The date was recessed into the pedestal in 1925 for wear reasons. Yours is worn enough to where it might hard to tell if it's pre-'25 or post '25 without closer examination with a good loupe.

Looked at slq under a microscope and a good loupe 7x magnification, its worn pretty badly, I would say its probably post 25. Hopefully next time I find one of these in the ground it will be in better shape!
