(Sov guys) Coiltek WOT versus the 12x8 trea seek coil for all around performance.

So as all the Sovereign guys know, our machines are great! My biggest problem is pinpointing. I want to get a bigger and deeper coil for the GT. Looked at the 15 inch WOT coil and the 12X8 oval coil from Coiltek.


What do you guys have to say about each? Is it more difficult to pinpoint with the 15inch? I am afraid that it being bigger might make it a hefty task to pinpoint. I mean don't get me wrong I love this machine but its tough for pinpointing. I don't want to make it more difficult to pinpoint but i want more coverage/depth than the 10 inch factory has to offer.

Better coverage and easier pinpointing is what i am trying to achieve. What do you guys think?

the 15inch W.O.T. is as easy to pinpoint with as the original coil is.

they are Both DD coils so you pinpoint with the Tip or Heel of the coil.

Only problems, weight, & amount of targets under the coil
at any given time in some areas.

no comment on the 12X8 oval coil, as I have never used it

I feel like the 15 WOT coil would be a good coil for the beach strictly since there isn't to many targets close together. I was looking for something for the beach as well as other terrains. Tough decision since both coils are really expensive. Thanks for the comment though.

I liked mine at a drained Lake Bed where targets were at all depths & sizes.
I cleaned up with it. Everyone else there called it My Vacuum

I also used it in well Hunted parks.

and after a couple years even learned it enough to use it in new trashy spots.

I said it before I'll say it again 3 foot Deep beer cans & tiny earrings at a few inches.

As Jeff said you pinpoint off the tip or heel of the coil, doesn't matter what size. I don't even use the pinpoint mode. Once a sound is heard I do the "Minelab wiggle." where you slowly move the coil back an forth while pulling it away from the noise. When the sound stops you slide coil forward and when you hear it again, the item is right off the tip. I think the tip is better as if you use the heel you could find another target ahead of the one your trying to pinpoint.

Its a tough decision. All of the coils offer there own pros/cons. Actually the 10x5 treasure seeker is suppose to be more sensitive than the WOT and the 12x8 coils. But it is also not as deep as the WOT of course. I guess we just need to buy them all right.

I'll give my vote for the 15" WOT too. Great coil. Start with it at the beach where pin pointing is not all that important. Once you get used to it, you can use it anywhere (except tight or real trashy areas!) I use both the heel and the toe when hunting. It just depends on the signal and what else is under the coil in the ground nearby.

I keep hearing more and more good things about the WOT coil and not much to steer me away from it. I'm so getting one when I can afford it!

Have you considered the 13" Ultimate? It's a very nice coil on the straight shaft GT and extremely lightweight. It felt lighter than the stock 10" Tornado to me and gave good coverage and was very sensitive to small earring sized targets. Pinpointing was never an issue where I used it on wet sand beaches.

Coiltek has an exclusive deal with Minelab. They work together and share technology . Their coils are hands down the best on the market. The 15" Coiltek coil is crazy deep on the E-Trac.

Some may not be aware that Coiltek use to make all the Minelabs coils, then Minelab started making them in house, through a deal between Minelab and Coiltec, Coiltec retained the right to make aftermarket coils for Minelab.

As far as eliptical coils are concerned, the coil width primarily determins the depth that the coil will find any given target, the length gives the width of the scan.
The wot is a fine coil and still retains good sensitivity to small rings and similar size items.
My wot pinpoints well using the normal crossing method but the tip can be used to advantage with very small and shallow targets.
The 10 x 5 treasure seeker coil that you mentioned is theoretically more sensitive to small targets than the wot but depth will be lacking as compared to the wot.
I do not use the wot for parks and gardens detecting. It is too deep and is a bit tiresome when there are a lot of close spaced targets.

Just an opinion, not Gospel
