I prefer the older excals myself. Expect to pay $600 -$900 for a good used excal....

Describe what the decal and coil look like. There are several old versions, not all are worth buying.

Personally depending on cost I would buy any of the old excals, .... even the original sword excal is worth money.

Some of the early Excaliburs cant be serviced by Minelab anymore. The original design circuit boards are no longer available. If you get a serial number on the unit, Minelab can tell you if it's a servicable version.

I just paid $700 for a 9 out of 10 Excal 1000. Watch eBay for buy it now instead of auctions. Many I see I wouldn't pay $500 for but after you look at several, and read their description, you get a feel for the condition of the machine.

There is very little difference in the two.

Both my excals are used, I bought one for $475, looked rough with decal coming half off but has performed perfectly, the other I paid $600 for and it run perfectly for 5 years before having to spend $200 to have repair and it would have been out of warranty anyway...

The price of both my excals together was less than one new excal.

The Excalibur ll has a different coil, different headphones, and minor revisions to software and circuit boards.

If you are tired of digging iron junk it will be a HUGE improvement.

Personally, I'd keep both of them. There are times when there is no substitute for a PI machine.

After starting this thread and doing some research I agree.
I will keep the PI, it´s paid for, i´ll just have to save up and then get the excalibur...
Thanks all for the input..

Thanks Wayne....

The difference in actual performance is what I was referring to, there is almost no difference in actual depth between the original excal and excal 2 or it's sensitivity to gold that I am aware of....

Both of my excals have the best custom mods, both have large DD coils hard wired into the controls, one has 12×15" SEF Butterfly coil and the other has the 15" WOT coil....
Both of my Excals have the remote pinpoint mod on the hand grip for reverse descrimination hunting and both have the new amphibian headphones hard wired into controls...........

I would probably buy another Excal if i came across a good used one at a good price, but mainly just to resale....
