I like the way the Sov is designed best, you can pole mount it/hipmount it/chest mount it/mount the control box on a float, just very versatile in design.
The Explorer series (Ive got an Etrac now) are like lead poles after awhile hunting, no balance at all.

The all metal mode on my Elite(pinpoint on the GT) is a great mode, adds depth to the unit and quicker reset also.

The explorer series will ID better than the Sovs and also has a wider range of tones.

They both excel at the ocean where I use them.

Looks like Minelab is focusing on the their gold machines with little thought to the other detectors. Theyre improvement on the BBS series was to go to the FBS series.

The Excal is still a dinosaur in its design.
