I have had my E Trac for just over a year, every time I go out I ask myself "why am not getting the right settings put on this". This was my seconded purchase and I might have gotten over my head on this one. Great detector but being new to MineLab I am finding it difficult sometimes.

I am asking everyone who wants to reply, can I get advice on what works best for you and what are your settings for your hunt. From coins to relics, I do allot of free detcting and recovery for the VA hospital ( dates back to 1880's ) making them a display cases.

Any help on settings, discrimination, number settings would be great.

Thanks,

Joe

Do a factory reset and just hunt in coin mode first. Auto sensitivity. You don't need to tweak anything. That's what makes Minelab shine you can use it right out of the box unlike some others out there. Learn TTF it's great in iron infested areas and very easy to set. Just select relic mode, response normal (or whichever you prefer)audio 2 tone ferrous. Save it and go. You don't want any discrimination while using TTF as you want to hear the iron grunts and be able to hear the highs amongst the grunts. Good luck and HH! Read Andy Sabisch's book if you haven't already.

Fletch is right on - keep it simple, no need to make it harder than you need to. After reading Andy's book then make some tweaks after you understand what it is you are tweaking. :)

I admit that the initial differences in Minelab compared to other detectors can be daunting. You can get a lot of info at www.goes4ever.com. I know I have benefited from some of his advice. However there are several good websites by others ( some of them you can get from the aforementioned site) that will help a lot. I know you will love the E-Trac once you get used to it. The learning curve is steep but the rewards are great. Happy hunting!
