I found this ring in a park about 2 weeks ago, I thought it was a kids ring, it had a rusty red color to it, I saw some other post of rings that were the same color and turned out to be gold, so I got this one back out and cleaned it up some, its not marked inside with anything.. doesn't look like gold or silver, did an air test with the x-terra and it reads a solid 16...and I think that would fall in the gold ring range...any thoughts on rings that fall in that range.. I believe it is made of nickel. Nickels get the same red patina that you spoke of. That would be about right with the tone/id of 16 as well. You can do a scratch test on a piece of unglazed ceramic, like bottom of a coffee cup or toilet tank lid. A google search will explain how it works. I've found 5 rings in the past 2 years, all costume junk!
