I got that sunray x-8 coil for the Explorer SE today, hooked it up and took it out to my test garden to see how it works, Hit all my coins some at 6" and some at 10", was real accurate on depth, pin pointed right on, but the curser acted a little different in the way it moved around in the LCD, but was still real close to what it did with the S.E.F. coil...

I think you will find its best to go by sound on the deepest of targets, as they will usually sound good while the visual ID bounces around a bit. This effects almost all modern machines, but looks more dramatic on the Explorers and Etracs with their ferrous vs conductive display ID. This effect is more pronounced on targets that have iron in the vicinity of the good target... Hope that helps.
