If you have a similar piece of copper, you could air test it for a specific target ID range. But copper will ring at various IDs depending on the size of the object.

Too many factors affect the resulting Fe-Co target display. If you just wanted one type of target you can DISC all but that particular response. But again, target depth, target orientation, sweep angle, soil type and moisture, and any differences in target shape or composition will throw off the response.

That is difficult to do because copper coins falls in about the 12.41-12.45 or so range and so does copper pipes, aluminum and silver. Clad coins also read in this area.

In my parts, 12.42-12.43 will almost always be a copper coin.

My experiences concur with Pointman's numbers.
I also think testing against various Cu objects as MDS suggests is the way to go. Do lots of air testing with as many different kinds/orientations/sizes/distances as you can stand and then set the machine up to accept just that range. Yes, you will still dig some non-Cu items, but it will be minimized.

May I ask why just copper?
