What could it be?

Was MD on the beach today with a high surf and high tide. Working the wet area and had a 12:23 hit on the CTX said it was 9" deep. It was a ver strong signal. I dug a hole about 2' diameter. And down about 18" but the surf kept filling my hole back in with sand and water. Figured I'd go back another day and hopefully the surf will be low, to dig deeper. What could it be? 12:23?
Thanks for your help. John

Probably a piece of aluminum can. Most likely a large one with a bunch of holes corroded through it.

Could be an anchor... a can... some ones beach chair... or just about anything.
Then again it could be the treasure chest buried there 200 years ago.
Dig man... low low tide...
Watch your tide tables... and go back.
Chances of finding it again will be hard the longer you wait.

I’ve used about all modern ones but right now: CTX 3030, White’s MXT Pro, XP Deus, Vaquero, White’s TRX

Ok, zinc usually reads in that range. Sometimes aluminum will, but usually it is a little higher. Sounds like it is reading too high to be gold and too low to be silver. Being that it is large (still reading below a foot) I would skip it, unless your curiosity was killing you.

Heh... Curiosity killed the cat... OR made it dig a deep, muscle building hole.
If you do not dig it you will always wonder.

12:23 was probably a pull-tab - they drift about in the hole as the surf moves it. It could also have been a yellow gold woman's wedding ring with 9 1-carat diamonds. You just never know.
