Vicksburg Park

I know it is HIGHLY illegal to MD inside the Battlefield Park at Vicksburg. However, where are the boundaries between legal and illegal? There are lots of areas on the perimeter that I suspect could be part of the "park" but those areas appear to also be public access. For those who have wondered this question, what was the outcome of searching nearby the Park?

For those who have wondered this question, what was the outcome of searching nearby the Park?

The park has boundary markers but the best thing to do is stay FAR ENOUGH AWAY from the park. The only chance of hunting near the park is if you get permission from a private landowner who has land that is near the park or borders the park. On those areas, the boundary markers are usually pretty well defined but the responsibility is YOURS. If you were to accidently stray onto park property then it's on you. They usually don't have much mercy. Just saying....

One more thing I forgot to mention. In Vicksburg, in the southern part of the city, the National Military Park used to own land. That land was given over to the city in the 1950s or 1960s I believe. But there are still position tablets, markers, monuments, etc. in the woods and in other areas that give it the "national park feel". Although, many of these markers are neglected.
Being city property and NOT National Park Property you can still access some of those areas to hunt. But many of those places they have a lien with private landowners. I have been able to access some of those areas over the years with NO PROBLEMS at all from the city of landowners. Just need to approach it the right way. On one such piece of property, there were lots of historic markers and existing Union earthworks and I obtained permission from the land developer before they made a retail development out of it! I ended up finding TONS of good relics before all the earth was moved. A whole hill was taken down. They destroyed the earthworks AND hauled off the historic markers, position tablets, etc. The physical evidence of that history is now gone...except for the relics I was able to save. I was also careful to catalogue what I found and where I found it.

I grew up in North Jackson. My Aunt and Uncle owned McGuffie Steel on the river in Vicksburg before they passed. That land is now a Casino.
