Good bye my beautiful Lady....I'll miss you.

We got Lady, our border collie, about five years ago. She was a kennel dog for a year and a half before we got her. When she first came to us, she was afraid of everything. She cowered all the time....spent her time under our bed....as much as she could.

Eventually, Lady came out of her shell. Since she was a herding breed, she herded Xena, our other dog, all the time, making sure that Xena didn't get too far away from me. Xena was her little sheep. She love to chase tennis balls and Frisbees and would constantly nudge you with her various toys so you would throw them for her. When I took her cross-country skiing with me, she would circle me...eyeballing the ski tips...wanting to bite them. I once calculated how many times she would circle me on a ski outing. One circle around me every 15 seconds.......4 circles around me in a minute.......She would circle me 240 times in an hour, a typical ski outing. Eventually, she lost her fascination with my ski tips and started exploring the woods around her.

You probably saw her in my cellarhole pictures. Her and Xena were always with me on my hunts. She started wandering a little too far so I had to start taking a ball on my hunts. So I would hunt....stop pick up the ball....throw the ball....hunt some more....pick up the ball.....throw the ball....That's the only way she would stick close to me so that I wouldn't lose her.

We own 65 acres of land so there's plenty of room for our dogs to roam. One very foggy night last week, Lady wandered into the road. She was hit by a car. Fortunately, the man who hit her stopped, and, fortunately, she didn't suffer. We buried her in her favorite spot to lay.....in our backyard, up above the pond, in the woods by a spring. I can see the cross from my kitchen window.

    I'll miss you, Lady.

Mona Lisa, that is so sad. After a while they become our "other children". It's wonderful that you could make her life happy (as she did for you also) for the time you had her.

    Thanks for your kind responses.

True, Gypsy, I think Xena misses her most of all. She wanders around the house looking for her and then comes to me and stares at me with her sad eyes.

We'll be OK....Anna, my daughter, is already talking about getting another dog....so life goes on.

Lisa, so sorry to hear this. We raise/sell dogs here, they're family too and is so sad when one passes.

I can't put my female down where she likes to lay... in the crotch of the back yard tree! We'll have to figure that out when the time comes.

Love & Prayers to all at your place.

Lisa, Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet Lady. It is always hard to loose a pet especially one that you can share your hobby with. It is nice that you have pictures of her with you MD'ing.
