New School House Site! Found Frozen Ground & Great Scenery

I already had permission to hunt the new school house site so I grabbed my camera and extra batteries and headed out this morning! Two hours later I was walking towards the building where I found only rock-solid ground and great scenery! There was no way to dig, so I snapped some pictures of the area and kept detecting to see if a return trip was warrented after the thaw.

Was it worth the gas money?

The school is over my shoulder... it was six (6) degrees out!

    The school itself (built 1910)...

My only keeper find on top of the ground... glass stopper?

    An old car nearby...

A parting shot of the school...

Old truck on the trip home....

    See, definately Old School education.
Were you able to date when the school was established Montana? Isn't that a hand crank car?
Your photos were treasure enough. Breath taking.

Yup... the town that used to be there was platted in 1910, and started building in 1911. The entire town was owned by one dude who ran everything - the merchantile, post office, grain silos, farm implement store... etc. He paid everyone who worked in those businesses and sold or rented every house in "his" town. Although the town was successful and flourished, swelling to a several hundred residents it folded in 1935, the last resident leaving in the late 1970s. There was always from three to 15 kids in the school. Only a few buildings stand today.

History is pretty new here... not many pioneers, and they didnt have two nickles to lose! It takes a little research and a lot of driving to find a good spot. Even now Montana has only less than 950,000 people! Thats only 6.3ish people per square mile! Let me know how your hunts go if you get to Bozeman.

My exploritory search today yielded some promising signals! Problem is I'm not to excited to get back there... I have too many other places that will produce more than the random find. If I go back I'll surely write about it though!

Great post, I really like the Model T. My neighbor would really like that frame. He rebuilds Model T's. Thanks for posting those pictures of that Beautiful Site. What a great feeling walking in the past and no one around to bother you.
