Another Productive Montana Relic Day
Goodafternoon all...
My metal detecting Wingman Tony and I went out to our favorite haunt today, and did pretty good considering we only had a few hours. Again, I'll spare you the blow-by-blow because you already know how it went! We arrived, we detected, we found some good stuff...
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves... the only suprise was a nice .58 cal miniball amongst the plethora of .45-70 rounds, and the one inch tall Infantry "I" which, although I know what it is, I have no idea what it was used for. I'm thinking uniform or accoutrement because it is thin stamped brass.
Enjoy the pictures, and as always... thanks for looking.

Backhoe? I wish!!    Truth is, sometimes these rounds are right on top of the ground, pretty cool after 130ish years.  Also, my knees and back appreciate those easy diggin's.

TT... You prolly noticed I don't say where my spot is... and thats because there is a trust with the land owners. I wish I could invite you all to dig with me! But alas... it will never happen. 8)
I do however hope you find a spot too... and you are always welcome to live through my pictures vicariously!

MJ, I understand your position and wouldn't want you to divulge your secret spot. Well, not ALL of it anyway! I thank you kindly for your generous offer to let me live vicariously -- at least until I get the coordinates from the GPS unit attached to your rig. LOL
Great finds and I am getting a wee bit itchy to hit the trail myself and find some goodies of my own. Now if it would only stop snowing here in "sunny" California.

Jim,
I knew you wouldn't let me down. Man, you made out today. Great looking button.
Wait, wait, let me see if I have learned anything yet about CW stuff. You have found a 3-ringer drop, probably Union. Am I right?
Congrats,
MM
P.S. What am I doing up so late? I forgot I have to work tomorrow.

Yea... LOL, Your right about the bullet, Kinda'.
- The bullet was made after the civil war I'm sure (mid 1860s to late 1890s)
- The soldier who made/lost it might have served in the CW, or not
- The weapon it was made for might have been used in the CW, or not
- The bullet was a drop
- It was certainly lost by a Blue Coat, or civilian, but the CW was over by then...
- I absolutely consider it an "Indian War" relic
