Holy crap, you have a small coil....why is that, bud? You probably aren't punching too deeply in those fields.

Nope... not too much deaper than 6 inches below the surface. But thats cool cause I can pin-point with it also. I rarely if never miss the target the first time...
I don't carry a "pin-pointer" so this helps keep me moving... quicker digs. Plus, the ground is TRASHED with iron, tin, roofing tin, 100+ year old bean cans... you get the picture. This helps me detect around that stuff twice as fast...

Jim,
Congrats on the finds. I'm jealous. Not of the button, but of the 40 degree weather.
Man, I can't wait to feel that weather again.
When I saw your bottom picture in the post, I thought it was the doctor that gave me my last physical. Ouch.
Thanks for the post.

Re: Meager Montana Diggin's
Jim, you and your buddy had a decent hunt, ah, nice mug shots also
Who exactly wore those Indian Department buttons and are they rather rare to find or what?
Hehee, 40's huh, well it is September.
My hunting season will start shortly, thank goodness South Jersey winters seldom stop us from getting out.......

That IS a diminutive coil, jimmy....but your hunt was splendiferous! It's smokin that you came out with a stellar button!
Spicy widgets, whatnots, and thingamabobbles.....zesty guy in the pics, too.

Don - This from another site I have link on that other post: "To the Indian Office, a disciplined and well-trained police force also served as a "perpetual educator" for fellow Natives who would walk the white man’s road. Indeed, a button on the police uniform depicted an Indian plowing and surrounded by the words: "God helps those who help themselves." Another weapon in the federal government’s acculturation arsenal was the courts of Indian offenses established by the Interior Department in the early 1880s. In less than a decade, ninety-three Native judges staffed courts at twenty-eight agencies. They enforced Indian Office rules that forbid the sun dance, scalp and war dances, polygamy, and various practices of medicine men. The courts also heard cases against Indians charged with theft, destruction of property, drunkenness, and trafficking in intoxicating liquors."
I only know of one other guy who has dug them... that's our mutual acquaintence from the other site...
