WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather

Another sunny Montana day… Wingman Tony and I decided to take our two loves one this trip! That’s right… Medal Detectors and Harleys… we packed all our stuff on my bike and put on about fifty layers of clothes…

We headed out before the sun came up – and promptly froze our tails off… the speeds were kept to below 50mph which kept the temps at about 0 - 5 degrees because of the wind chill at 50 mph.

Do not try this at home! We are professionals!

Our first stop was for some much needed hot coffee about the same time the sun came up… it had warmed to a sweltering 26 degrees without the wind chill…

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-1.jpg

Arriving at the button fields we unpacked and assembled the detectors…

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-2.jpg

The first find was a first for either of us! Tony found a trigger, but we don’t know what it’s from… just that we think it’s a pistol trigger…

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-3.jpg

Then true to form and leaving me in the dust Tony dug the first eagle button for the day…

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-4.jpg

Tony detecting in a cloudless Big Sky country… Priceless!

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-5.jpg

I found the next eagle button… cuff sized… awesome!

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-6.jpg

Here I am enjoying the moment… it had warmed up nicely… and I sunburned my head!

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-7.jpg

After tons of nails and crape’… I dug my first .50-70 shell…

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-8.jpg

    Tony’s second eagle button… in three pieces…

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-9.jpg

    I followed with a great knapsack hook… not a common dig here…

WILD HOGS! Harleys & Hunting! Buttons, bits, and cold weather-10.jpg

Here are the rest of my finds…

    Part 2 -

This lead chunk weighs in at about three pounds… and is stamped with “THE RAYMOND TRA - - - ?” Pretty cool…

After a great day in the field we mounted our trusty steeds for a warm and fantastic ride home… there’s no better way to spend the day!

    As always… thanks for looking!

Now that's a new way to get to a site. Great hunt. I was in Montana back in June. Beautiful!

Nice lookin Hogs! Even prettier Eagle Buttons!!!!!! That knapsack hook isn't toooo shabby either! Great digs my friend. Thanks for the pics. That lead piece is VERY interesting. Over here, a lead piece that BIG would be a sabot off of a shell. Would definitely be interested in what that is. The trigger was a great find as well. That field is a very lucrative spot Jim. Good job buddy!!!
