    Hello from Germany

Hi! This is Lou from Germany. Im MDing on european battlefields for about 20 years, mostly in the area which was called "Westfront" in the german news at that time. Some of You will know the term "Huertgenwald" or the "Battle of the Bulge". That is where i live. When i was a child everywhere in the forests You could find something from wwII. As for that im a relic hunter for over 30 years now. Now the times changed and You have to do a lot of research to locate some good spots... I will try to get some pics in here to show You what we dig over here. Hope to get some fun on Your board!

    Regards Lou

    Re: Hello from Germany

On the day this pic was shot we found 5 from this 155mm shells and 10 or 12 different smaller ones, German and American... Some of them where what we call "Durchblaser". When the shell explodes only the base came out leaving a hollow case. This is one of them. You can take them home to display if Youre strong enough to carry such a heavy piece of iron for miles through the woods.

Please do not post pictures of skulls or the bone remains of soldiers (or civilians), regardless of which side of the conflict they fought.

    Re: Hello from Germany

Hi Stefen, its not very common to find remains in our area, though it happens... Personally i didnt find a soldier in all the years im MDing. So You dont have to worry about posting this. Anyways from time to time You find bones in a minefield here, but You cant dedicate them to a particular soldier.

A belated hello, Lou. Be careful with munitions you find, as you probably already know. I think you're probably the kind of guy who would treat any human remains you might come across with dignity and respect.

Thanks RGINN! You can count on both. You cannot imagine how much life munition You ran over on a day in the woods...Sometimes there are a lot AP mines. You dig 3 or 4 of them on a single day... For the human remains, as i told berfore, it seldom happens here. But if i ran over somewhere in the future You can be shure that ill do everything to get them home no matter from which country they are! Everybody still laying in the fields has a family...

    Hello, Lou.

Germany is a beautiful country. We lived there from 1982 to 1985 in Moerfelden. I wish I had a metal detector back then. Can't wait to see more of what you find. Best of Luck to You!!!

    Re: Hello from Germany

Thanks to all! Where will be the best place to post some finds? Relic hunting? In the moment we didnt go MDing, ist way too hot... The soil is like concrete. Not the best to use a pickaxe when there is life ammunition in the ground! btw...i dug a german pickaxe near a german trench two weeks ago. Then a pic from a two hour hunt last sunday and one from me and my australian cattle dog helping me to dig some american 30.-06 rounds.

    Schoenen Wilkommen.
Love the pictures and hope you post more of your finds. I lived in Pirmesans, Karlsruhe and Germersheim. I didnt treasure hunt but my Uncle did and he found lots of cool items. One thing he found was some kind of huge viking ring of some sort, at least that is what he said it was. Had a big ivory stone on it. Cant remember too much since the last time I saw it was about 20 years ago.
    Hope to see more!!
