I would love to! I’m not official so I’m going to tell you my experience and then give you a website. My husband has been volunteering for several years. I have volunteered for the past two. They have two events that I know of. A large event in the spring and a smaller event in the fall. Both events the heroes fish for two days and have various cookouts and or eat out and then go home on Sunday. I believe it is restricted to veterans who have received a Purple Heart and civilian service equivalent. There are applications on the website. Area charter captains, professional walleye anglers, and others volunteer time, money, boats and equipment, etc., to serve those that have served us. My husband is a professional walleye angler and in the spring he gets paired up with Bill. Bill served in Iraq. The vehicle he was riding in either hit a mine or was hit( Lord help me. I don’t remember the details.). After many surgeries he still has like 150 pieces of shrapnel in him. His buddy was killed. This year we recruited some friends to help with the cook outs. Us wives were helping hands and served the food. On Saturday they have a big to do dinner held at a different campground. Friends roasted pig and we pulled pork. I was in charge of setting up the food line. There is also a silent auction set up to help raise funds for the WWH. They paraded the heroes from one campground to the other with fire trucks escorting them. Then that skydiving team parachuted in with American flag and Purple Heart flag with the DJ playing the national anthem. After everyone was served and it was the food crews turn to eat, Bill and a couple other heroes got behind the pork table and served us. Very heart warming! There were 120 heroes plus everyone else put us at 500+/-.

This fall I went up and this was the mission part of what I was referring to on other threads as my “mini vacation/mission.” There were 21 heroes and 20 “captains “ plus others. My husband had a father/ son team. The father served in Vietnam and the son Iraq. I baked cookies and brownies for 2 days and put together 3 boxes with 50 snack baggies each for their fishing trips and the ride home. I was honored to do it and didn’t want anything in return, but they gave me this awesome black hoodie. I can’t wait till next year!

What is the biggest shark you have seen while fishing?

Is your house decorated with fish mounts? This would and a nice one and so would a few others you have posted.

Did you get his permission to post his mug shot? :laughing7:

Is this an eater?

Do you have a pic of a Goliath Grouper? I know your not allowed to harvest them, but they do get caught. And how do you guys calculate the size?

Ill have to download some more goliath grouper pics, heres a small one. photo-696.JPG there is a catch 22 in the law that says you should not bring them on your boat. Sometimes they must be boated to properly vent them of air so they can descend back to the bottom. There is a special tool with a hollow needle that allows the trapped air to be removed from there swim bladders. Guessing weight is difficult and is just that, a guess. Im guessing that this one is right at or just over 100 pounds. I wish I could afford some more mounts but they get quite expensive on the bigger fish. We do have a few including 2 sail fish, one at our house and one at my inlaws house. Ill post some pics when I find them or take some more. We've caught some giant sharks over the years ,the biggest was over 3000 pounds and was a six gill shark from the deep. Heres another hammerhead. photo-695.JPG

photo-694.JPG research sand bar shark fishing. Tissue samples, measurements, weights, reproductive organ samples, I collected a 33 gallon trash can full of shark jaws that day. You can just see them at the bottom of the pic.

photo-697.JPG heres big daddy goliath grouper. They used to call them jewfish. I have no idea why ? But it became politically in correct and the name was changed to "goliath grouper" . Funny....I still go out jewfish creek, and I still live on jewfish ave.

No walleye out here, Rainbow Trout. They do have some nice color patterns when they're young. 4781893637_5813805987_b.jpg

Hey terry, your brother knows somthing that many fisherman forget. Its not the size of the fish that counts, its the size of the smile that counts, and your brother has a big one !!
