Does anyone here know the story behind taps,
the music they play at military funerals?
I read that on a civil war battlefield that a union captain
heard a wounded soldier moaning throughout the
night and the captain risked his own life to rescue
the wounded soldier, not knowing if he was a union
soldier or a rebel soldier and once he got the wounded
soldier back to camp, he found out it was his own son,
who was dead by the time he got him back to his camp
and was supposed to be in Atlanta studying music.
But when the civil war broke out, the son joined the
confederate army and ended up on the battlefield later.
His dad asked for a full military funeral but was denied
because his son was a rebel soldier, but the union army
said they could use a bugler to play music, that was in
the rebels coat pocket and that music was later turned into
taps. If I can find the whole story, I'll post it later.
