Favorite "Comfort' Songs

So because I feel like burning the midnight oil tonight....I should have been a radio jockey in some all night station ...WKRS-GYPSY .... :)....I send this next song out across the night skies and hope it touches those of you who need it the most................

When you’re weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I’m on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can’t be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

When you’re down and out,
When you’re on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I’ll take your part.
When darkness comes
And pain is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

Sail on silvergirl,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine
If you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind.

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.

Re: Favorite "Comfort' Songs

Good choice Gypsy! Love that song.
Here's one that goosebumps me requiring many sighs.

The Long And Winding Road

The long and winding road
that leads to your door
will never disappear
I've seen that road before
It always leads me her
Lead me to you door

The wild and windy night
that the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears
crying for the day
Why leave me standing here
let me know the way

Many times I've been alone
and many times I've cried
Any way you'll never know
the many ways I've tried

But still they lead me back
to the long winding road
You left me standing here
a long long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here
lead me to your door

But still they lead me back
to the long winding road
You left me standing here
a long long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here
lead me to your door
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Re: Favorite "Comfort' Songs

There's a calm surrender to the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world can be turned away
An enchanted moment, and it sees me through
It's enough for this restless warrior just to be with you

And can you feel the love tonight
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

There's a time for everyone if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours

Re: Favorite "Comfort' Songs

You Needed Me

I cried a tear
You wiped it dry
I was confused
You cleared my mind
I sold my soul
You bought it back for me
And held me up and gave me dignity
Somehow you needed me.

Chorus
You gave me strength

To stand alone again
To face the world
Out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me
You needed me

And I can't believe it's you I can't believe it's true
I needed you and you were there
And I'll never leave, why should I leave
I'd be a fool
'Cause I've finally found someone who really cares

You held my hand
When it was cold
When I was lost
You took me home
You gave me hope
When I was at the end
And turned my lies
Back into truth again
You even called me friend

You needed me
You needed me

Funny how "comfort" songs are also (maybe moreso) Love songs.

So ................... in keeping with MD's favorite subject ..................

You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold

So she took her love, for to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold

See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in fields of gold
We'll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold

You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

Excellent album Jeff! Haven't heard it in a long time. Now I'll have to dust it off and give it a good listen again! Brings back great memories!

Jeff - re: Bridge of Sighs - One of my favorites too.

Got to float under the Bridge and walk it in Venice in '75 and could not get that song out of my head. The feeling is NOT comfortable in the least! The guy who sang on the video was OK but the great loss is James Dewar who vocals are unmatched in rock

Had a chance to see Trower locally, but I missed it. Big mistake.

Theme song from Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove
I hear your cry
And if I had wings to fly
I'de join you in your restless flight
Theres no place for a Lonesome Dove to rest tonight

Here in the Blues
Heart Like a Lonesome Dove, Far away from his true love
He could not find his mate in flight
Theres no place for a Lonesome Dove tonight

Wandering wandering fly on and on
His song to sing
Searching for his long lost love
Must he always be a Lonesome Dove
Ride Cowboys and Bold out hearts
Riding for a long lost cause
Searching for the one true light
Our hearts feel
Like a Lonesome Dove tonight

Re: Favorite "Comfort' Songs

hmm...tough to pick just one...

John Lennon's ...Imagine
or.....Willie nelson's...Whisky River (take my mind):) hahaha :)

Seriously, tho; when I'm 'down' I tend to go for classical...usually Mozart's 'Marriage of figaro'

Re: Favorite "Comfort' Songs

He's not Heavy He's My Brother
For my Dad and Husband both are Boys Town Alumni (deceased)

"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"

The road is long, with many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where, who knows where
But I'm strong, strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

So on we go, his welfare is my concern
No burden is he to bare, we'll get there
For I know he would not encumber me
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

If I'm laden at all, I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart isn't filled with gladness of love for one another
It's a long long road from which there is no return
While we're on our way to there, why not share
And the load, it doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy - he's my brother
He ain't heavy - he's my brother, he's my brother, he's my brother

Re: Favorite "Comfort' Songs

Artist: Lindsey Haun, Toby Keith
Song: Broken Bridges

Wake up to a sunny day, not a cloud up in the sky
Then it starts to rain, my defenses hit the ground
And they shatter all around, so open and exposed
I found strength in the struggle
Face to face with my trouble

When you're broken in a million little pieces
And you're trying but you can't hold on anymore
Every tear falls down for a reason
Don't you stop believing in yourself
When you're broken

Little girl don't be so blue
I know what you're going through
Don't let it beat you up
Heaven knows that getting scars
Only makes you who you are
Only makes you who you are
No matter how much your heart is aching
There is beauty in the breaking
Yeah

When you're broken in a million little pieces
And you're trying but you can't hold on anymore
Every tear falls down for a reason
Don't you stop believing in yourself
When you're broken

Better days are gonna find you once again
Every piece will find its place

When you're broken, when you're broken

When you're broken in a million little pieces
And you're trying but you can't hold on anymore
Every tear falls down for a reason
Don't you stop believing in yourself
When you're broken
Oh, when you're broken
When you're broken
When you're broken
