I don't know. I really liked Santana with a 19 year old kid doing that drum solo on Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock. Totally impressive...

bulaDirtDog, you seem to have my kind of taste in music, except for the drummer part :tongue3: Like Don said, Gene & Buddy were great too, but two of my favorites would be

1- Ginger Baker, Toad - A great jazz drummer that doesn't overdo things and he does incorporate some interesting rhythms into each song. No 2 times will he play it exactly the same either :laughing7:

2- Phil Collins, just a great rock drummer. Again, nothing fancy, and also uses African rhythms like Baker does at times :icon_thumright:

The best drum solo of all time has to be Iron Butterfly doing "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" from 1968. Awesome tune and only 27 minutes long!(I think). Any other nominations?

Funny ! when I read your title [h=2]Best Drum Solo of All Time![/h]first thing to pop into my head was In In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida ,

so i guess it was.

Although I intended to say there are too many great ones to name just one

Thanks for posting that Jeff! When I saw the thread title my first thought was of Carl Palmer
and that amazing solo he did. Good to see all those old farts (ELP) looking so young!

They are a Bit off the beaten path in their style.

I saw the Welcome Back my friends Concert live from right in front of the stage.
actually right in front of Emerson's Moog Fast Forward to about 8:15

The video doesn't do it Justice,
the sound traveled in circles around the Concert hall.
at first from one direction then Both directions tieing your head in Knots
& there was actually a Big Flash the last Second, and

.... I gotta say "Guaranteed to blow your Head apart" isn't just a line from the song ,
I walked out with my mind fully blown :laughing7:

Remember one thing, this 60 something Baker carries on 4 separate rhythms at one time, and then has them join up and split away again. There is no getting away from it, Baker is one of the best yet. Can he play fast? Of course he can, but his style isn't about speed. He is a master of triplets:headbang:

Anyone who has played drums can tell you that having a fast roll is nothing compared to having the full package :tongue3:

See, it's not always about speed :icon_thumright:

Jeff, if you like drummer's then you will love Bakers lessons. It is amazing to see how he arranges actions. Even during his video, he makes fun of drummers that play fast, and what he calls boring :laughing7: I think he took that line from me and this is the first time I ever saw this lesson. Watch it if you can, and then you can appreciate his style

This is interesting to listen to also for his stories :tongue3:
