My grandfather sent my dad and his brothers out to find pieces of glass. He used them to scrape the wood finish on a fiddle he made. I never saw it, but it was supposedly a bit larger than normal fiddles. My grandfather won several contests at the Alvarado, Texas, 'Old Fiddlers Reunion' with that fiddle.
I asked some of my older kin about what happened to the fiddle when I was in my teens. My dad didn't know. I was told that it was probably sold after my grandparents separated. He was older and unable to work. Probably needed the money. He had been offered quite a bit of money for it some years before.
