My best wheats are 6 1931-s coins, one 1909-s and three 1914-d ranging from vg to VF,thats in 40 years of detecting. I never found a 1909-s VDB but a friend found one at an old stage stop that I showed to him, some people have all the luck. HH Kane23

That is a nice one.

My best was a crisp 1914-D that I found in a pine forest as a kid. At the time, I think it was worth about $14.00, and it somehow wound up in a box in the basement. It is suspected lost in a basement flood.

I still cry and rant at my detecting buddies about it all these years later.

"Hey God- you had better be looking out for my crisp 1914-D wheaty in Heaven!"

LOL...you detect :o...with buddies? ;D

My best Wheaties were found about a year apart. First one on April Fools Day. Both are unfortunately very crusty, out here in Denver a lot of pennies will seem to "sweat" out tiny beads of copper. And of course, it's random. One was found with an Indian Cent that was 20 years older, but in pristine condition. The Detecting Gods are a humorous, fickle bunch.

I found my best wheat during my last hunt of 2008. . . a 1909-VDB. . . no "S" though :(

1909.jpg

I guess mine would be a 1922 weak D in V.G. to Fine. It's quite a crap shoot, since I find well over a hundred a year and rarely see anything worth more than a 50 cents!

This is not my best date but by far the best condition of any wheat I have ever dug. Most are corroded and hard to get a date from. This 1912s is class act though. Enjoy.

I have only been detecting for a very short time but have managed 4 wheats so far. I guess I'm on the right track. Anyways, the dates are 1941,44s,51s,55d. Can't wait to find something of significance. Mapo out

Have probably found 150 wheaties since I got back into detecting a few years back. Oldest one is a 1917. None of them are particularly valuable, but I really enjoy filling out the holes in the Whitman folder. Here in Maryland it is very difficult to find any S mint marks. My only wheatie with an S was a worn-out 1924-S.
