MORE...... This one was a real heart stopper, I dug it in the same park that was flooded the other day. When I got it home I rinsed it in some running water, then got my redbook out. Nice values, HA. I cleaned it some more and found the word " COPY " near the rim. The coin weighs 9.0 grams. Don't know what metal it is, but it's not copper....NGE

Re: More blast from the past

The " so called dollar " has the first state seal of S. Dakota on it and the S.dakota historical museum would very much love to have it. I had sent it in to Ask Marker Parker quite a few years ago and his experts never seen anything like it before, and said it was worth at least $100.00. Honorable S.S. Cox was a noted public orator from New York, and was speaking there for the split of Dakota to North and South Dakota. It says on the obverse side; In commemoration of the Honorable S.S. Cox at Huron, Captol of SOUTH DAKOTA July 4th. 1889. On the reverse it says; D.I.V.I.D.E.D WE STAND DAKOTA UNITED STATES It also says ORO y PLATA above the mountains on the reverse. The metal composition is pewter with heavy lead content, it is 1 1/2 inches in diameter, 2mm thick, I do not have the weight as of yet. Here is the letter I sent to " Ask Mark Parker " and a few pics. I found this in an old homesite, Michigan Basement ( dirt floor ) it was about 6" deep near the old wood burning furnace. The house was still occupied and I had permission to search. There is an interesting history of this farm, which I will share later. The farm was over 300 years old when I hunted some of it. If anyone has anymore info about this piece, feel free to inform me.......NGE
