C14th Teutonic Knights Burial Group sword etc...

Obtained in Russia, a burial group for a Knight of the Teutonic Order killed at the battle of Plowce in 1331. This complete group was taken from a tomb in Poland in 1945 as the Red Army started to return to Russia. It was obtained direct from the family of the Russian soldier who had taken it and kept it hidden right through the days of communism. The soldier had been stationed near where the victims of the battle of Plowce were buried and this came out of a stone sarcophagus when the church that contained it was bombed. The sword is a typical two handed sword of the early C14th, there are 2 knives, the sword belt buckle and loops and even the head of the crossbow bolt that must have killed the knight and still been inside his body when it was buried. Last picture shows this sword (extreme left) with some other swords of the same era and a viking sword for scale. I'm new to this site so posted up a few items that i've had from Russia. Hope users find them interesting

WOW is right. Thanks so much for sharing. I wonder what they're worth - not that you'd sell them. You might need to know for insurance purposes.

Fantastic collection you've got there. Thanks, for showing them. Did you coat them with something to preserve them ? If so, what did you use?

Glad you found this post interesting , i've just put up another posting with photos of a viking sword from Hungary. My swords are conserved and coated with some specific mix of wax made for the job. it comes from Switzerland and is used by many big museums on medieval metal artefacts.
