    Benedict Arnold's House--copper coin found

This story is too good to avoid telling. I wanted to protect the property owner from unwanted annoyances, but I think at this point it's ok to tell the tale now that the property has been well search by several of us and there's no real incentive to go there (I know, I know, nothing is ever searched out). First link below details site of the house where Benedict Arnold lived around time of the Rev. War and where he fled George Washington down to the Hudson River and to a British ship to avoid being found out for his treason of trying to give West Point to the British. I received permission from the current property owners to search and found the Connecticut Copper shown at second link (1780s--can't read date). So, it's possible that it was Arnold's coin, but almost certain that he knew the person who dropped it. Also found several interesting buckles and buttons, an early 1800s flying eagle penny, and various other stuff. (I'd ask if anyone does have an interest in going, please contact me and I'll try to arrange it based on my existing relationship with the property owner. However, as I said, it has been well searched by several of us.)

Nice post Bergie! You are lucky to have detected such a site and find a nice old coin, maybe BA really did drop it. HH, Mike

Had to of been exciting to hunt there. Did you find anything in his underground? I think you said the floors were stone. Anything from between the stones?
The game he was playing, I would think would make him a candidate for having a cache somewhere around. When he fled, he may of not had time to get it. My bet would be under one of those stones.
Congratulations on your finds and thanks for sharing them. HH

I did check the underground celler with no luck. The guy who owns the place had found a small cannonball in the same area.

Wow. That is an opportunity of a lifetime. Congrats.

Thats cool man. Cool finds too. i live about 20 min away from John Hancock's house and I would love to search his property but its lies about 100 yards from a police station. Im sure the state owns it as it is a historical sight.. Imagine what is laying around 5-10 inches down on that property. MMMMM wish I could there
