I found my 40th silver today

A short hunt in a old park this morning i found a 1944 Silver War Nickel P that makes 40 silver finds for this year so far Jim

Hi Iron Patch ,yes i did that King Louis XV was my first Silver coin dug back in May this year it was about 8 inches down in a just plowed-up potato field ,from what i was told by a coin expert in town that ECU silver was minted in Canada , my town out here on the East End of Long Island goes back to the year 1610 and as does the crop fields and lots of vineyards so i guess anything is possible i attached a few photos of that coin. Jim dig deep !!

What a great find that is. I have spent many hours on early French sites and I kid you not it has literally taken me years just to get a small higher grade French silver coin. (And I was very happy with it)

Digging an ECU, now that would be off the charts. Colonial French silver does not get it's just due, especially when comparing Colonial Spanish, but I can say with certainty an ECU is many MANY times as rare to dig as an 8 reale. I'm not even sure If I have seen another posted from North America. If only the book value had to do with how rare it is to dig!

PS... Better find a new expert It was definitely minted in France and you can find out exactly where because the strange symbol is the mint mark. It's very late here, but if no one tells you where in France it was made I'll tell you later today.

The picture you found is Paris mint.

Thanks Iron Patch now i know what i have i was looking in the wrong mint lol i found a 1760 from a auction site over in France that just sold for 833.00 and its no better shape then i one i have if you look at the word REX on mine the auctioned one is RE? some kind of symbol and 2 dots are missing before and after the tulip , regardless this one stays with me . Jim

There were MANY mints producing French coins during that period so even two coins that are close to the same can have far different value.
