Post Your Favorite COLONIAL Era Relic (No Coins Please)

I think that it is fair to say that Colonial era relics are a favorite among many on the site. Post up your favorite Colonial era relic.

Mine is this silver whistle found last year. Silversmith was Joseph Taylor, late 18th century. I call it a hunting whistle but who knows. The shield motif always made me wonder if it was military in nature. I've seen similar Taylor silver whistles but none with the shield.

Mine is this harness boss I dug at a colonial house site in Dumfries VA It had iron wires on the back to hook to one harness while another slid throught the slot. The star motif indicates it is British made but I've never been able to find out anything else about it.

    A Type V buckle from 1660-1720

Found last year. Probably my oldest find to date. Love the patina.

I gather you mean non-military too? ..or say non-marked military.

I have to think about this one. No idea right now.

    How about...

    2 cannonballs, a 6 & 12 pounder from two very historical forts?

You'd have to define Colonial then. Your plate would be post as far as many are concerned. (American)

Re: Post Your Favorite COLONIAL Era Relic (No Coins Please)

Several favorites, but this one was perhaps the most unusual and totally unexpected colonial relic I have ever found. Never, ever dreamed of finding something called and Indian Peace Medal, especially one from King George I era of around 1714-20! This one was rather beaten from the elements and years of use, however it was used, (guess worn around the neck) but the day I found it, I was thinking "Boy, that is one big King George copper that I don't know about"

I do have the story about this find posted here:

"The mantra has always been don't clean a (copper) coin or it will lose value.
For undug coins this is true.  For dug coins this is untrue.
The value will increase with judicious cleaning."
