Show me your best condition old find/s! I don't care what it is!

Here's a thread where everyone can play. Not like those inconsiderate GW guys.

Either great condition or really good for the age. Post em up!

The gilt crown button is local militia and dates about CW period.

The plain button is French Marines and dates about 1730s-1750s. Usually these have edge loss and no shank. This one is unusually slick as well.

That's nice! Is it a Phoenix?

Not sure. :icon_scratch:

Sometimes I look at it and see an eagle and sometimes I look at it and see a dragon. :dontknow:

Crazy victorians. :D

Looks fine to me, just like every other UK'er I see on tv. :D

Re: Show me your best condition old find/s! I don't care what it is!

O.k. here're three - different categories. Once again, couldn't give you the date on any of these (well, o.k. the nickel's 1927). The spigot's fully functional and came out of the ground looking pretty much as is (one piece). The broach, (unfortunately :-\) was proffesionally (:icon_scratch:) cleaned. Originally when I found it, it was tarnished brown - similar to copper, but somewhat crusty w/ dirt in between the petals and such. Thinking it was copper and not wanting to damage it, for fear it was too fragile, I had it brought into a jeweler to see if would be o.k. to have it safely cleaned. When I got it back, he couldn't tell me what it was made of, (the last time I bring a piece in to a schmuck :P). Anyway I'm figuring gold filled (?) maybe a gold copper alloy? Any input for this one would really be appreciated. The last is the highest grade (older, not oldest) coin I've found (I still have to have it certified though).

I posted these a while back but what the heck. I dug the USA in '72. It still has the shank. I dug the navy in the 80's and the milita in the mid 90's both of these date early 1800's and both have the shanks. The navy came out of an 1863 New York camp and the other 2 came from old house sites

Someday I will get around to taking proper pictures of these, but I think the gilt shows anyways.

These are all Civil War era backmarked buttons from a Colorado fort site.

The cavalry button is a great big overcoat sized button. The other two are coat sized.

I believe the eagle "I" button was painted black by the soldier, and the paint deteriorated leaving the gilt intact. The black you see on the button is actually the remnants of the paint. I assume the soldier did it to keep his buttons from shining at night in Indian country.

I think many would have hit those broad side with a jelly attack. They look great just the way they are. Buttons here rarely come out like that so there's usually a bit of decision making when I get home, but all easy choices now after so long and so many. Sometimes the crud actually protects the gilt so not always a bad thing.

May not be the best condition compared to others but my favorite so far. Found on a CW battle field. My guess is someone was fixing to get captured and threw their coin purse down to keep from losing it or it was lost during the battle. Found the "squared up" 3 ringer amongst the stuff so I know it was lost all at the same time. Dates range from 1836 to 1860...d2

Wow you guys have found some cool stuff!
I found the button on Gen Kerny's trail, AZ. And the Trade items in Montana on a Sapphire trip.
Still don't know what the button is? ?

Thanks,Arid
