It's taken a while, and a bit of pestering through emails, but I finally have the Gold content of the ring, and analysis of the blue stone. From the British Museum.....
Non-destructive X-ray flouresence analysis of the surface of a Gold finger ring found in Durham, indicated a Gold content of 70-74%, Silver content of 14-16%, the remainder being copper. The blue stone was identified by Raman spectroscopy as corundom. Corundom with a blue coluration is known as Sapphire.
Now it's just the wait for the valuation commitee to sit in Febuary they have given a provisionall valuation of £2000 not bad for an afternoons work ....

Congrat!!!!
This is a spectecular ring It is amazing that the stone is still attached to the ring I would have thought that the value will be much more for such a unique ring.
The ring is 17.76ct (which rounds up to 18ct or kt)... 24 x 74%

Thanks for the reply..... I looked it up and you are correct with your valuation of the Gold content

Alas I will never get to hold it again once it's been declared as treasure that's it although I will receive a finders reward. But I will be able to see it because the Bowes Museum(not far from me) wants to acquire the ring for it's collection

beautiful ring. :P
Det vi vet er så uendelig lite mot det som har hendt. Arkeologen er som den som går langs en strand og finner småtterier, skyllet i land fra et forsvunnet skib. Men selve skibet som gikk i dypet med menneskene får han aldri se.

you know what I think
TOO BUSY TO DETECT, YOU'RE TOO BUSY!!!

How do you find Gold coins? Reply: 'By finding lots of Silver ones..'
A real man thinks about detecting every 6 seconds
