Viking Raven Strap End
I found this strap end a couple of weeks before Christmas. At first I thought it was meant to represent a fish (it looks a lot like a pike). It is actually a Viking raven strap end 10th Century. The raven is shown with wings folded, it is meant to show one of the ravens owned by the Viking god Odin, I think they were is eyes and ears.
Regards
Robert.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a 'strap end?'

They went on the bottoms of leather straps, for decoration, and were sometimes made from Silver. They are highley prized find in the UK, and to find a Viking one is a spectacular find indeed

Yes as Colin says they were put on the end of leather straps as decoration. Like we do now with belts.

Isnīt it strange: In our World that is so fixated on knowledge and correctness, we still teach our kids in school that Columbus was the first European in America, when science knows that the Vikings were the first Europeans in America ??

Long before the Vikings journey,s across to find the East Coast of North America the Native American people were already settled in the Americas 1000,s of years they first came to the West Coast thanks to the last ice age crossing the frozen Bering Strait,s they were Northern Chinese nomads as we know today as Eskimos all the way down to South America the Aztec people a migration that took thousands of years hence fourth somewhere in between the Native American evolved , that sets the record straight who really discovered North America Jim

That is true my sister went to Northern Cornwall a few years ago to trace out family history its seems it goes back to the Celts .
Cornwall is recognized as one of the "Celtic nations" by many Cornish people, residents and organizations.
