Anyone got a method for enhancing an inscription on a blade ? I have this sword with a very long text in what look like Lombardic letters, they are pretty clear but not all are clear enough to decipher the wording fully. It's a C11th sword and unusually has some decoration on the reverse of the blade so must have been a high quality weapon when new. If you are good with this era of weapon have a look at my other post today, i'm trying to get some info' on markings on 2 other blades of the same era. THANKS !!

Nice Sword....the writing looks Runic, might it be a Viking Sword, I know you said 11th c but I was wondering if it could be slightly earlier :)

I know this sounds way too simple, but have you tried doing a rubbing? Just lay some paper over the top and rub either a crayon or dark chalk over it. The image will be revealed. They do this with old gravestones.
