I used to find them on a very regular basis, but now for some unknown reason they have just dried up. There's just no sense to it.

The one with the rays (bottom right) was first issued in 1787. The one with the chain is Rev War era, and the others I think probably 1790s. A military button that large doesn't turn up often, and the only other I've seen that big was an Artillery from the same period.
