    Rare Coins....

Over the past four years I have been lucky enough to hunt with my good freind Michael between us we have found some realy nice and quite rare finds...including coins that are very Rare to come by

The latest one has just come to light, its a Alexander111 farthing 1280-1286 and a scarse issue I will start the pictures with this coin .... this is what the UKFD has to say about it.... The obverse is unusual in having no initial cross, and the legend ALEXANDER DEI GRA, as on the larger denominations, rather than ALEXANDER REX, as normally found on farthings of this issue. The variety is not listed in either the Spink or Coincraft Catalogue, and no other example has been traced.

The second coin I'm showing is also a find by Michael ... it's a Roman Silver denarius of Caligula.. Caligula Denarius. C CAESAR AVG GERM PM TR POT, bust right / SPQR - P P - OB C S in 3 lines within wreath. RSC 19.

The third coin is one I found..(at last) ..it is a extremly Rare Alexander11 (again Scottish).. cut half penny.. SZ128 - SCOTLAND, Alexander II (1214-1249) in his own name, issue commencing c.1230, Cut Halfpenny, Short Cross Phase C, Roxburgh mint, moneyers Peris and Adam, RARE REIGN...there are only four outher recordings on the UKFD for this King.

The fourth coin is a coin that most UK detectorists would give there right kn---r for Harold11 .....Harold II (6 January-14 October, 1066) AR Penny. York mint. Outhgrim, moneyer. + HAROLD REX ANG, crowned bust left, holding sceptre before / PAX in banner across field, +OVDGRIM ON EOF. North 836.

    Hope you enjoy the pictures

Thanks The cut half, if it had been whole Books at £2500, the Harold11 would be about the same for a good example, ours had a weak portraite, The Caligula is a bit hard to grade about £1500.
The first coin..Alexander111farthing for a nice example fetch £750 but this one is a bit Different, the cross above the head of the King is missing, and there are other differences, to the usuall ones found, so the price could triple

This one is the only Viking coin I have found not supprising really as very few Viking coins are found.
Viking Forgeries in the 10th century.

A fragment of a Viking imitation of a penny of Edward the Elder, but with a 'double-reverse'. Both sides of the coin are copied from reverses of the type that have the moneyer's name between inner and outer circles, with a small cross pattée at the centre. The legends are blundered, with one side reading + EERNAV[ ]T and the other, + VVSI[ ]E[?]. Both inner circles have bands of cross-beading.

You have made some great finds for sure, and although not rare, the find that inspires me most is the purse spill. No hold on, it is the posy ring, no, thinking about it, um , maybe most of your finds . Keep on hunting mate, I love seeing your finds .
