Re: "Gold Bicycle Chain" wi/ 60 Diamonds

It scraps out at about $4500, no stones. A lot of the basic principles that I put in my books applied: proven site, prime section--work it to death (my "avatar" bracelet at left came from twenty feet away) trash tolerence (found with a DF in a "minefield" of iron and other junk) and never quit (section hunted about every three days by (VLF) locals although this item had been there long enough to have the spring rusted out). I also suggest that people note the depth of water that finds ten to come from at a location and this one was consistent with several other big finds I've made there. (The low edge at the roughtest section). I hate to say it but knowing where to look is "job one". Then the idea is to hang around and wait for some luck...

Nice job Clive!

Thanks for the advice in "Site Reading for Gold and Silver". It quickly paid for itself (and then some ;D) in increased finds.

Re: "Gold Bicycle Chain" wi/ 60 Diamonds

Thanks, Ian. That book is about my favorite but it probably sells the least. The above find was probably 80% site-reading, 10 % detecting and 10% digging. Keep an eye out for my new Excal book; it's going to have a lot of good, solid shoreline advice.
Regards,
clive
