Re: A strange find for Rhode Island
Very interesting coin, a pretty rare find for the US no doubt!
I love hunting old relic sites . . . as I feel
the imprint of past lives often linger there.
I view relic sites as windows to the past, sacred places
in a way, yet at the same time attesting to the reality
that the past is still very much a part of our today!

Re: A strange find for Rhode Island
A buddy of mine was big into the history of Providence. He read about the old days of Providence as a shipping port, before it was landfilled and built up. I imagine there are pretty amazing things under that city! I recall him telling me about Portuegese sailors with pet monkeys leaving quite an impression on a newspaper writer way back when.
Cool find!

A nice find for sure, it seems in the early days what ever was in the coin purse got used. You just never know what is going to pop out of the ground next. Brian C.

Re: A strange find for Rhode Island
hey Blaze. Yes, yours is a little diferent. They are both 10 reis coins. I thought maybe just older version of the same thing. I am just so. of Boston. The coin was found in Plymton at an 1840's house. I don't know what it is called, but when you get past the loam layer of soil (dark) and get down into the pale sandy soil underneath (light). This and several other coppers were down in that lighter layer. 10-12" down. I swing an Etrac, and at the time had the pro-coil on. very little disc, and 2 tone ferrous.
