    Two Barber Dimes!!!

    Hi all,
I have been detecting for about four years now and use a Whites MXT that I love. When I first started detecting, on my second or third trip out I dug these two Barber dimes from the same hole at one of the mountain parks Denver manages west of town here. One is an 05s in vg and the other is a 12d in f-vf condition. I remeber thinking at the time some thing to the effect that "wow, this is easy"! I have since been humbled! Four years later not another Barber and very few other silver coins to show for my effort. I have been back to the same mountain park as well as some of the others that Denver owns and have found one Mercury dime - a 41s in pretty nice shape and a handful of wheaties is all! Any how, I have been trying to learn how to post images here and hopefully I have it figured out so that I can share my finds with every one.

Hey 3X, very nice dimes. I had a similar experience. First day out picked a silver washington and I thought every day would be the same. Now I've been in a silver drought for quite some time. (Humbled as well) But it's still a lot of fun, and is going to exciting to see that clean silver come out of the ground again.

    Those are nice.

Don't let it get to ya. It is hard to find old coins all the time. Very few can do it.

I'm one that can but I work really hard to do it. Not saying you don't just saying becuase nothing comes easy.

You definetly got the right detector. You might want to think about putting a 1400 DD eclipse coil on the unit.

That's if you hunt alot of large open area's. You'll get more depth and coverage to greater your chances.

Get some old maps of areas near you. Read as much history as you can about your town and county.

    Good luck,

    It will come to you.

Nice dimes there, 3X. Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged. Are the parks in Denver really that bad? How about the big, long park just off of I-70 near the amusement park? I've gone by there so many times on my way to Summit County to ski. I would always say, "man, I'd love to metal detect that park." It got to be a standing joke to the other skiers on the bus. Have you ever hunted that one? How did you do?

    Re: Two Barber Dimes!!!

    Hey all,
Thanks for the replies! And no, I am not discouraged at all, the mountain parks west of Denver have close to 100 years of picnic trash, that is bottle caps, pull tabs and many many small pieces of aluminum foil that sound like awesome hits. If any thing the city of Denver should be compensating me for cleaning up nearly 100 years of trash! SkierBob, I have hunted that park several times and have yet to uncover any thing other than clad, but have found an old looking leather coin purse that really got my heart pounding when I first uncovered it, nothing old though, about $3.25 clad. One other find from that park was a nice little religious gold pendant that I will post when I get a chance.

Thanks 3x for settling my curiosity about that park. When I go by there in January on my way to Copper Mtn. I won't be wondering about it anymore. Good luck.
