Re: my old pipe collection
thats a really nice collection!
im not much on cleaning things,
but what about this stuff called CLR calcium, lime, rust remover.
im a plumber and some customers swear by it for cleaning there tubs and sinks of rust.
just a thought.
good luck.

Re: my old pipe collection
CLR is good. Oxalic acid is what they use to take rust off of quartz crystals, but I would test it on a worthless piece of pipe first. Some of the home town parmacies carry it. Heated works better, but stay away from the fumes.

Re: my old pipe collection
You may want to consider taking a few of the pipes to a nice cigar or pipe shop. Some may be valuable in the condition they are in.

Re: my old pipe collection
That's one awesome pipe collection, never seen so many in one collection..
While in the service we used Naval Jelly, best I have ever seen for rust removal.. Not sure where to get it or if it is still for sale..
Thanks for a look at a great assortment of pipes and history..
If it were me I would never be able to let go of any of them..
Good luck on your next hunt..

Cool Collection
Hope you don't feel I'm hijacking this by posting the following but it brought back childhood memories at School.
My Art teacher gave me a hand written note on pipe repair over 20 years ago, also a couple of first edition publications from 1975, which is my Birth year. I think he reconized the passion I had for this type of find & I have treasured his notes & others articles ever since. I also post a couple of my fav ebay pipes
