    Could This Be Lincoln

I found this some time ago at a flea market. Search for Tim Owens and Lincoln death photo for more research info.

Here is Tim's new website for my photo http://www.historyhounddog.webuda.com/. It is a work in progress.

This does not look like Lincoln.

Also, Lincoln had a full beard and mustache when he was murdered in 1865.

This man has no mustaches that I can see.

Right you are. No mustache. I know someone snapped a photo of Lincoln in his coffin, but I didn't think they got that close. Maybe they did.

I was watching a program on the History channel or the like years ago that stated and showed examples of "Lincoln Death Photos" that were taken and sold on post cards and the like.

There were something like 216 or so imposter variants.

I have no clue but find it interesting just the same. You figure he was shot in the back of the head which caused brain trauma in which would cause things like swelling of the brain and face so I'm sure he probably looked a bit different in the face b4 and after. Sad that anyone would have to go through that kind of suffering.

    Re: Could This Be Lincoln

Think it looks more like a Victorian Death Photo which were a fairly common practice to have taken by family members from very early days of photography. There are web sites and forums for collectors of such photographs so may post or ask around on one of them to see if maybe that's what it is.

    Re: Could This Be Lincoln

Being a Lincoln scholar most of my life, it is not a photo of Lincoln. After his assassination, there were many photos that came out that were reported of being of Lincoln after death, but there is only one that was actually taken and survived. If you take a close look at his nose, it is totally different in your photo, compared to actual photos of Lincoln. Here is a link to see this photo. Scroll down the page.

Here is a link to the story of the discovery of this photograph.

I have seen a number of these "fake" photos of Lincoln over the years, and many of them look somewhat like him, while others obviously do NOT look like him a bit.

This photo that you have may not be a fake, but rather a photo of a person that resembles him. As it was already mentioned before me, this was customary to take such photos of the dead at that time.
