The story goes....

Its a field that I have detected for over 5 years. The first year was excellent with a nice Silver Roman Denarius & many more nice objects. The next year hardly anything, same for the following and so on. It wasn't until this year when I had very little options open & decided to try again.
I started at the far end of the field away from the old road where previously I had found very little. The first day went well with 3 medieval hammered coins (I normally find 1 every 2 months). The next couple of days went the same, now I was getting excited but thought it would end. However then it happened towards the bottom of my run where I was about to turn around I heard a good signal. Thinking it was a medium piece of lead I did a small dig & immediately saw gold. The rest is history, my earliest gold coin.
At this point I was still only half way down the field. So I carried on & found my best & mint condition King John (1399) hammered penny (a very rare find) & right on the last run of the field a hammered sixpence of James I (1604).
I found 11 hammered coins in the one field, a new record, that didn't include previous years finds.
So just proves what the plough can bring up even after extensive searching.

I dream of British dirt... all the time.

Trouble is, I'm on the wrong side of the pond. *Sigh* Maybe one day...

Ah, well. In the meantime, I'll have to content myself with colonial coins (if I'm very, very lucky).

Enjoy it- you are living my dream. Congratulations!
