my first find-HOLY POOP!!!!
So, here it is,camera wouldn't take a picture, but someone said to use my scanner and it did ok.
The story-
Several years ago, I borrowed a MD from a friend of mine it was one of those radio-shack kids toy types.i pooped around with it a little, but unless the target was on the surface,it was a no-go,so I gave it up. After a few years of fishing I started to take notice of all the old foundations I was seeing so I decided that maybe I should give this whole "prospecting" thing one more try......
About a week ago,I went to gander mountain here in town and picked up a bounty hunter-quik draw 2. I figured it had to be better than the toy I tried. My wife and I went out to an area that used to be a town(it's now wooded)to try our luck. Ten feet into the woods,we got a signal that said 6",I wanted to see if the thing was working so I dug it. Sure enough,an old bottle cap, just like the MD said. Well, we walked a little further, found some surface junk, and about 45 minutes into our treasure hunt I got a very strong silver ping,so we dug. We hit some very loose sandy soil, and I didn't want to hurt a coin,so I started using my hand to dig.As I went to throw my next "scoop"on the pile I was building, I looked down and saw a small black disc. I thought, cool an old penny, when I picked it up,I ended up in the grass. I fell over,I believe I also may have cussed a little.....
I owned a MD for one day, and walked 45 min into the woods, I am a FIRM believer in beginners luck. This is my first actual find, and it is going to be a duesey to beat. It's an 1840 seated half-dime,it's actually in pretty good shape,my scanner didn't pick up any of the silver tones, but other than a little circ wear,it's in ace condition. It also turns out 1840 is a "key" year, they were transitioning from the draped bust, needless to say,I'm pretty proud of it. Now for my $20 gold.........
I noticed that no-one really utilizes all the signature space provided, so I figured to be REALLY original I would make up the longest signature that I could and probably just leave it as one big run on sentence because all that punctuation just takes up way too much space-HH.

GF,
welcome to the board.
Very nice, and on your first real hunt.
Nice being able to have your woman with
you.
Tough to beat; perhaps your one of the ones
who just has the detecting gods with them.
Hope you have many more finds.
have a good un...........
In the academies many books, at the circus many sacks of peanuts, at the club rooms many cigar butts.

Re: my first find-HOLY POOP!!!!
Actually, I just bought a tesoro-cortez(love it !!!-thanx again to doug and betty in wis rapids!!!!)and am planning on hitting the site harder,we also found two wheats and a 1941 quarter all within a few hundred feet. I figure with the tesoro I'm getting WAY better depth and better discrimination. I'll post reports of any goodies and pics of any treasure.
P.S.-I absolutely love the site, there is so much camaraderie and help here it's nice to be a part of(except maybe those grumpy, crazy minelab guys. )
