these were dug near the battle of shiloh,tn. i have more but no pics. i found over 100 of the little mine balls,and was only 3in deep.

several items from a union artillery camp ( 1st US artillery -company B --aka--elders horse artillery)--stationed in jacksonville fla ( they were in the area from from feb 5th to april 25th, 1864 ) they landed in jacksonville on feb 5th and helped take control f the city and then they and about 5,000 union troops departed from jacksonville feb 7th headed toward baldwin , then barbours farm , sanderson and lake city --while enroute to lake city they found and fought the confederates at the battle known as "olustee / ocean pond" on feb 20th where they were were soundly defeated ( a loss of 40% of their strength --2,000 out of 5,000 kia, missing , wounded or taken prisoner) the 3rd worst defeat by union forces during the civil war by total % of men lost (while other battles had many more by numbers by % lost of the total number of men engaged this one was very bloody for union troops) confederate had about 20 % loss mostly wounded with a much smaller % amount of dead since they had won the battle and had a nearby hospital to care for their wounded) --the union troops rapidly retreated back to jacksonville getting back feb 22nd , 18964 --the 1st US company B artillery unit encamped there until april 25, 1864 when they departed jacksonville-- I have found a union A button --a copper match holder screw top tube with matches still i it -- a us army sutler exchange token -- a farriers hammer and a horse mane curry comb (pewter body with embedded brass or copper tines)-- a 58 cal bullet --and a intact cannon fuse for a james "rifled" gun (cannon)--which was the type of cannon used by the 1st US artillery Company B -- the camp site location was figgered out by a photograph in the florida state archives * when I first saw it it was listed online simply as "a union artillery campsite in jacksonville -1861 to 1865 " * but upon looking closely at it in the photograph there was a small sign upon one of the tents and upon the photograph being blown up by zoming in on it --it read 1st US -COMPANY B -ARTILLERY -- by checking their deployment records I found out the only time they were in jacksonville was from feb 5th 1864 until april 25th ,1864 --and by carefully examing the photgraph and with certain knowledge I have --I was able to locate the exact camp site area - I have told the state of florida archives --the details of the photograph, so that they can better "time frame" it -- it had to be taken between feb 5th and april 25th of 1864 (the only time the 1st US COMPANY B WAS IN JACKSONVILLE DURING THE WAR) however it was most likely was taken after the battle of olustee sometime between feb 22nd and april 25th of 1864 ) the exact camp site location I am keeping to myself as it is still producing artifacts

type in --union artillery camp in jacksonvile civil war-- and a image oif t should pop up * note that the data that I supplied to the state archives was input but no credit was given to me for providing it --typical of the state --take the info and use it but give no credit to the person who supplied it to them --since it was not one of the "state boys and girls".

I have quite a few general service buttons,a infantry button and a artillery button,a couple Connecticut buttons but my fave has 2 be the union officers sword belt plate I dug here in Connecticut at a cellar hole in the snow.pics below

Found a brass stirrup can't say 100% CW but had the director of the western historical manuscript at the local college help me find it in a CW horse tac book that noted it was from that era but it was used both on civilian and officers saddles so who knows

I found on a CW battle field several silver coins that were lost or thrown away during the battle. I cant find a picture but will try and take another one of them. I found 23 dimes all seated except for one capped bust dime, 2 half dimes and 7 quarters. Dates ranged from 1836 to 1860. I found a "squared up" 3 ringer amongst all the money. And found it all in an area the size of a kitchen table. So far that's my favorite...d2

My ID tag is probably my best find and a Confederate Script "I" with C S on it. Both hard to find.

I have posted this before but here it is again. I have a nice collection of bullets, buttons and other CW relics but this is my best find. It is a Fireman's badge from the first firetruck in Methuen, Mass.It is a little bigger than a quarter. It was carried into battle by a member of the union Army who was captured at Spotsylvania in 1864 and sent to Andersonville prison where he died. I found the badge in an old town site not too far from the prison. I have identified the soldier who carried it and plan to donate it to the Methuen Fire museum in the not too distant future.
