I bought it. Came out of Canada.

The photo makes it look like it could be pewter? Or is it Brass? How does it attach? Very nice piece.

It's cast brass. It has two loops cast integrally into the back. It matches a picture of a British light infantry cartridge box badge from the early 1770's. I have the pic somewhere....Most of my best pieces I purchased. I did dig three of the Massachusetts numbered button molds once upon a lifetime ago. Sold them because at that point in time I was really poor. Doing better now.
